Every time I see photos of Sintra, I immediately think about how magical an elopement could be there. The vibe is so romantic and unique compared to anywhere else in Europe.

Quinta da Regaleira

This place is so fascinating. The property is filled with hidden tunnels, mystical gardens, stone towers and the famous Initiation Well that spirals deep underground.

When you walk through the gardens, you feel like you’re exploring a secret world. Every corner looks sooo cinematic, which makes it incredible for photos.

Monserrate Palace

Monserrate Palace is often overlooked compared to Pena Palace, but I’ve asked many locals there and they told me that it might actually be one of the most elegant locations in Sintra.

The architecture is a mix of Gothic, Indian and Moorish influences, and in the surrounding gardens you can find exotic plants from all around the world.

As a photographer, I LOVE locations like this because they offer so many different textures and atmospheres in one place.

Castelo dos Mouros

It’s a castle located high on the mountain ridge that overlooks Sintra. When you’re there, you can see immense forests, the colorful Pena Palace in the distance and sometimes even the ocean.

In my opinion, there is something special about exchanging vows in a place that has stood there for centuries.

Pena Palace

As I mentioned it earlier, Pena Palace is probably the most iconic landmark in Sintra. It’s famous for its bright colors and its hilltop location. You really feel like you’re in a fantasy movie.

Although the palace itself can be busy, there are many surrounding viewpoints and forest trails that offer beautiful scenery with more privacy.

Cabo da Roca

Cabo da Roca marks the westernmost point of mainland Europe. You can stand on these cliffs and see the views in front of you.

If you want your elopement to be adventurous and wild, Cabo da Roca is the place to be!!

Praia da Ursa

It’s a beach located near Sintra. To reach it, it requires a short hike, which keeps the crowds away.

When you arrive, you’ll find rock formations rising from the ocean and one of the most untouched landscapes in Portugal.

Tips for eloping in Sintra

Sintra is incredibly popular, especially during the summer months. Whenever I plan or photograph a session in places like this, I always recommend choosing sunrise or sunset so that you can avoid most of the crowds.
