The Algarve is one of those places in the world that when you go there, you dream to come back every single day. Every time I look at its breathtaking landscapes, I understand why so many couples dream of getting married here.

As an elopement photographer, I’m always drawn to places where nature does most of the magic, where you just sit and admire the views. The Algarve is exactly that. You can find everything there, from cliffs, to hidden beaches, to arches and endless ocean views.

If you’re dreaming of saying your vows with the sun setting over Atlantic behind you and the sound of waves, here are the most beautiful places to elope in the Algarve.

Praia da Marinha

Praia da Marinha is probably the most iconic beach in the Algarve and you can directly see it in the picture below. The golden cliffs and the turquoise water create a landscape that almost looks too perfect to be real.

When I imagine photographing an elopement here, I picture a couple standing on the cliffs at sunset with the ocean behind them. Picture it yourself!! It’s crazy how beautiful it is!!

Benagil Cave

It is one of the most unique natural locations in Portugal. When you’re inside the cave, sunlight pours through a circular opening in the ceiling and illuminates the sand below.

I personally LOVE locations that feel completely different from anywhere else, and Benagil Cave has exactly this feeling. To get there, you usually need to take a short kayak or boat ride, which makes the experience feel even more adventurous and we can take unique pictures on the boat too!

Arco de Albandeira

It’s one of my favorite coastal formations in the Algarve. You can see incredible backdrop for photos. If you want to compare it to the more famous beaches, this spot is quieter and more intimate usually.

That makes it perfect for couples who want to be alone, in a peaceful safe place to exchange their vows surrounded by nature.

Algar Seco

Algar Seco is famous for its incredible rock formations shaped by the ocean over thousands of years. Can you imagine? Ugh I love nature and god’s creations!!!

There, you can find small caves, arches and windows that open up to breathtaking views of the Atlantic.

One of the most famous viewpoints here is the ”Boneca Cave”, where two natural openings in the rock frame the ocean perfectly.

Praia Dona Ana

It’s a small beach near Lagos, and there you feel like you are in a hidden paradise. The atmosphere is so peaceful.

If you would like to have your ceremony directly on the sand with cliffs rising behind you, this romantic location is for you!

Praia dos Estudantes

There, you feel like you are in a movie. There’s a small stone bridge that connects two cliffs above the beach, so freaking beautiful!!

I already can imagine the incredible pictures that I would take there!

Praia de Vale Centeanes

It’s one of the most scenic coastal hikes in Portugal.

The cliffs surrounding this beach are absolutely spectacular, and the views from the trail above create breathtaking backdrops for photos. It’s also less crowded than many popular beaches.

Tips for eloping in the Algarve

The Algarve is incredibly popular, especially during the summer months. Whenever I plan or photograph a session in places like this, I always recommend choosing sunrise or sunset so that you can avoid most of the crowds.
